How to check a white card in Tasmania and Western Australia
What a general construction induction card proves, how to check and record one in Tasmania and Western Australia, and what to do when a card is lost.

A white card, the general construction induction card, shows that a worker has completed general construction induction training. Anyone working in construction at any level needs one. Here is how to check and record a card in Tasmania and Western Australia.
Tasmania
WorkSafe Tasmania says a worker must complete the training, then apply for the card through Service Tasmania, which passes the application to WorkSafe. The application has to be made within 60 days of the training, so a worker may have a training certificate before the card arrives. See WorkSafe Tasmania's white card page.
Tasmanian cards carry a card number. I did not find a public search that lets an employer confirm a card online, so check the physical card or a clear copy, and record the details yourself. Cards from some other states are recognised in Tasmania. Check WorkSafe Tasmania's current guidance for which ones before you accept an interstate card.
Western Australia
In Western Australia, WorkSafe publishes construction induction training information. The card is issued by the registered training organisation that ran the training. If a worker has lost their card, they can ask that organisation for a replacement. If they cannot remember who issued it, WorkSafe has a construction induction training card database that can help find the issuer.
What to check and record
For each worker, record:
- Their name as it appears on the card.
- The card number and the state that issued it.
- The date of issue, and the training provider if shown.
- The date you checked it, who checked it and a copy of the card.
Compare the name with their photo identification. A card shared between people, or a photo of a card on a phone that you cannot read, should not be accepted.
When a card cannot be shown
A worker who cannot produce a card may have lost it, not completed the training. Ask them to arrange a replacement through the issuing organisation, and decide on site whether they may work until it arrives. Record that decision. Do not accept a verbal statement as a check.
Where Novato fits
Novato keeps the white card with the worker's record, including the card number, state and the date you checked it. For Tasmania and Western Australia it links you to the official guidance, because there is no public register to check against, so the check stays a manual review that you record.
See how Novato records licence checks and manual reviews.
