SAFETY AND COMPLIANCE

Prepare and check controls before work starts

Set out the safety requirements for the project, then connect task-level controls with the work they cover.

Draft, review and acknowledge SWMS

Create a first draft of a safe work method statement for selected high risk construction work. The draft is editable, remains a draft document and follows the usual review and approval process.

Link an approved SWMS to the relevant task categories. People assigned to the task acknowledge the current revision, and the task's readiness reflects whether its required coverage is in place.

Generated wording needs a competent person to check it against the actual work, site and controls before it is relied on.

Keep the project WHS management plan current

Record who is responsible for safety on site and prepare the project's WHS management plan as a reviewed document.

For supported contract thresholds, the safety workflow checks whether the plan must be published before work starts. Changes to relevant project details can flag a published plan for review.

Issue permits with controls and validity dates

Manage permits for work such as hot work, confined spaces, working at heights, excavation and isolations. Record the location, task, people, controls and period the permit covers.

A permit moves through request and issue, named people accept it before it becomes active, and expired or suspended permits remain visible with their status and history.

Ask for a permit from the task and its description is filled in. A task that needs a permit cannot start until the permit is active.

SAFETY AND COMPLIANCE

Record the checks and conversations on site

Keep a traceable record of briefings, inspection outcomes, incidents and hazardous chemicals without treating them as interchangeable workflows.

Record toolbox talks and attendance

Choose a safety topic, record what was discussed and who attended, and attach photos or follow-up issues where useful.

Signing off locks the talk and its attendee list. A later correction is added as an amendment, so the original signed record remains clear.

Use inspection and test plans for task hold points

Attach an inspection and test plan to the task it covers. Record evidence and results against individual inspection points as the work progresses.

A hold point keeps the next work from proceeding until it is released. Witness points call for notice, so the right person can attend before the work moves on.

Report incidents and protect restricted cases

Record injuries, near misses and other incidents, then keep follow-up and close-out with the project record.

Private cases are restricted to authorised case handlers. A person's appearance in a record is not, by itself, a finding of fault.

Report bullying, harassment or stress as a restricted case

Bullying, harassment or stress can be reported as a restricted incident. It is seen only by authorised case handlers, who keep the follow-up with the case.

This is a restricted incident type, not a separate psychosocial hazard tool.

Make chemical safety data easier to find

Record hazardous chemicals used on a project and where they are kept, then link each entry to its safety data sheet.

Keep company safety data sheets in a shared library. Sheets are reviewed on a schedule, with reminders before their review date.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Safety and compliance, clearly explained.

Does a drafted SWMS go straight to the site?

No. A generated SWMS starts as an editable draft document. A person needs to check its content, send it through the normal review and approval workflow, and link the approved revision to the tasks it covers.

Does every safety record have the same access?

No. Incident records can be restricted to authorised case handlers. Access to other safety workflows depends on a person's role and project permissions.
